OPEN SEA FARMING
While we remain committed to sustainable harvesting and processing of wild-caught species, we recognize that wild fisheries alone cannot meet the growing global demand for seafood. That’s why Natured Farms has expanded into responsible aquaculture—a vital step toward building a secure and sustainable seafood future. Aquaculture complements wild stocks, helping to ensure a broad, reliable selection of species so more consumers can enjoy the bounty of the world’s oceans and rivers—without depleting natural ecosystems. In the Bahamas, over 90% of seafood is imported, highlighting the urgent need for local solutions. Meanwhile, the United States produces just 3.2% of the world’s aquaculture supply, despite being the largest seafood importer, with 91% of its seafood coming from abroad. Expanding aquaculture across the region not only improves food security, but also creates year-round jobs and access to high-quality, locally sourced seafood. At Natured Farms, our aquaculture operations are guided by industry best practices to protect our marine resources, maintain clean water systems, and preserve healthy habitats. We view sustainability as a continuous journey, and we are committed to improving our processes every step of the way.
